Nature Explorers, a refuge program for children up to 6 years old

Nature Explorers is a FREE, fun-filled educational program for young children 0 - 6 years old. It is held by the refuge staff on the first and third Friday of every month at the refuge headquarters complex's Visitors Center from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM. The Visitors Center is located in the Southeast Louisiana National Wildlife Refuges Complex at 61389 LA-434, Lacombe, LA 70445.

The program starts promptly at 9:30 AM. You don't want to be late. The Visitors Center opens to the public at 9 AM, so arriving early is okay.

Your child can learn about Louisiana's native animals, birds and plants, create nature-themed crafts, go on a short nature walk, and more! Children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the duration of the program.

Programs vary with each Nature Explorer program and are conducted rain, mud, or shine.

When the weather is nice the program often includes a short nature walk to explore the topic of the day.

It is not necessary to RSVP for the event.

The Friends of the Louisiana Wildlife Refuges financially supports this program to make it free to all attendees. Also, our members are welcome to volunteer on the day of the event to help put it on.
