Join the refuge staff for this FREE, fun-filled educational program for kindergarten through 8th-grade children.  It is held on the fourth Friday of every month in the refuge headquarters complex's main meeting room from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM. The Southeast Louisiana National Wildlife Refuges Complex is located at 61389 LA-434, Lacombe, LA 70445.

Registration is REQUIRED for each event because there is limited space. You can register or ask any questions by emailing Refuge Ranger Becky Larkins at rebecca_larkins@fws.gov

Each month's program has a different topic that usually centers on native flora, fauna, or habitats of Southeast Louisiana.

Everyone is welcome but programs are geared for homeschoolers ages 12 and under (K - 8th grade). This program is a great opportunity to explore the natural world and engage in hands-on activities.

All homeschoolers must be accompanied by an adult throughout the duration of the program.

All programs are conducted rain, mud or shine.

We financially support this program, so its free to all attendees. Also, our members are welcome to volunteer on the day of the event to help put it on. If you are a Friends member and would like to help out, please email Refuge Ranger Becky Larkins at rebecca_larkins@fws.gov or send us an email at lwrfriends@gmail.com

Nature Explorers is a FREE, fun-filled educational program for young children 0 - 6 years old. It is held by the refuge staff on the first and third Friday of every month at the refuge headquarters complex's Visitors Center from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM. The Visitors Center is located in the Southeast Louisiana National Wildlife Refuges Complex at 61389 LA-434, Lacombe, LA 70445.

The program starts promptly at 9:30 AM. You don't want to be late. The Visitors Center opens to the public at 9 AM, so arriving early is okay.

Your child can learn about Louisiana's native animals, birds and plants, create nature-themed crafts, go on a short nature walk, and more! Children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the duration of the program.

Programs vary with each Nature Explorer program and are conducted rain, mud, or shine.

When the weather is nice the program often includes a short nature walk to explore the topic of the day.

It is not necessary to RSVP for the event.

Feel free to email Refuge Ranger Becky Larkins with any questions at: rebecca_larkins@fws.gov

The Friends of the Louisiana Wildlife Refuges financially supports this program to make it free to all attendees. Also, our members are welcome to volunteer on the day of the event to help put it on. Learn what nature has provided with go-home instructions on how to prepare these items.

This is a discovery only class - no collecting on the refuge, so its rain or shine.
